Personally, a masjid in its entirety is Allah's HOUSE of worship. It does not "belong" to someone nor is it "owned" by anyone in particular. Housing in a masjid may be looked down upon if the person is fully dependent on the masjid and does have a means to house elsewhere. But if the person is genuinely unfortunate and does not have a means to seek shelter elsewhere, then it is the responsbility of the Muslim community witnessing this to do something about it. By means of charity and donation, housing should be provided for these people in the masjid InshAllah. Remember a person cannot be considered to be fully a believer until he loves for others what he loves for himself. This meaning is not restricted to his fellow Muslims; it applies to all humanity. Indeed, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Love for the people what you love for yourself and you will be a believer.” [Sunan Ibn Mâjah] Walaikum Asalaam, JazaakAllah for your question and presenting your concern.
